2013 Honda MSX 125

MDN January 17, 2013

Honda presented the mini-moto MSX 125. The 2013 mini Street X-Treme 125 is described as a two-wheeler dedicated to leisure and comes to lie in the continuity of Monkey, ST and DAX.

Made in Thailand, Honda MSX125 is defined as “halfway between a mini-bike for the size and classic motorcycle for the performance and dynamic behavior.” This new urban model is not likely to go unnoticed despite its small size.

Expected to land in concessions as of April, the MSX will be available at around € 3100 (price not final).

Honda has developed its MSX around 3 axes: create a bike that is handy and practical, fun in and out of the city, and able to accommodate a passenger.

To meet these objectives, the manufacturer has opted for a single backbone steel. Square section tubes directly associate the steering column on the decks that support the swingarm pivot. All other elements are connected with this simple structure.

Meanwhile, the architecture of the framework has made it possible to generate sufficient space to accommodate inside the tank cover elements of the PGM-FI electronic fuel injection system and other electrical components. Fuel capacity is not penalized as the reservoir can host 5.5 liters.

Another priority was to have “higher” quality suspensions. The 31 mm inverted fork reduces unsprung weight while the upper surface of the pistons improves the feel of the entire length of travel. Upper and lower tees are oversized in order to optimize the dynamic behavior and feelings while at the rear, the monoshock is associated with a swing arm made of a steel tube.

Another element, the wide aluminum alloy wheels of 12 inches in diameter and 2.5 inches wide with  ”Y” branches can limit weight. Finally, the front tires of 120/70 and 130/70 rear also participate in the dynamism of the whole. In terms of braking, the front is assigned to a disk of 220 mm diameter dual-piston caliper while the rear benefits from a 190 mm disc gripped by a single-piston caliper.

For its part, the digital instrumentation provides all the information you need: speed, dual tripmeter, fuel level and time. Resetting the tripmeter, setting the time or switching between different totalizers are performed with the buttons that are on both sides of the screen.

The single cylinder 2-valve 125 cc and air cooled that propels the MSX125 is extrapolated from one of the most tried engines in the Honda lineup since the engine has been built more than 930,000 times since its debut in 2003.

Developing approximately 10 horsepower, this engine has been improved thanks to technologies such as low-friction cylinder offset or roller cam for driving the valves. Reducing the inertia of the crankshaft also means a better feel for throttle and also a more gradual increase in power. The Mini Street X-Treme is also equipped with a 4-speed box controlled by a manual clutch.

Exhaust side, the 28.6 mm diameter collector ends with a muffler of 3 liters that promotes power in the medium and high regimes. The muffler itself uses a double layer of protection, composed of an inner metal heat shield and a resin outer shield.
